When I started making this site I had no intentions of donating any of the proceeds to a good cause. The night I really started working on this site I was watching a TV show where the general theme was giving back to those in need and those helping people in need. I decided then, that since I have been rather fortunate, I can donate some of my good fortune as well.

Approximately 33% of every project will go to charity.

Charities I like to support include:

• Habitat for Humanity of Lake County - HFHLC is dedicated to building decent, affordable housing for families in need, while empowering families to help themselves.
• American Cancer Society - The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem.
• Clearbrook - Clearbrook is committed to being a leader in creating innovative opportunities, services and supports to people with disabilities

How it works: If your project total comes out to $1500 then I will donate $500 of that to one of the charites above (you can choose the one that most aligns with your interests). If you are interested in supporting a certain charity via your project let me know. I will gladly split the donation among any registered 501(c)(3) organization (one listed above receiving 50% and one of your choice receiving the other 50%; to split a donation the donated amount must be greater than or equal to $500).

Alternatively: If you’d like to volunteer at one of the organizations listed above (or one of your choosing), we can adjust your total based on the number of hours you volunteer. Volunteer info for each organization can be found below. Note: you can only volunteer up to the 33% donation†. The number of hours is based on a combination of the project total, which charities you are volunteering at, and minimum wage. Here’s an example:

Volunteer hours converted to project cost reduction:

• - # of hours volunteered = 8hrs
• - IL minimum wage = $8.25
• - 8 x 8.25 = $66
• - If you volunteer 8 hrs at one of the charities above you can reduce your project total by $66
• - Volunteer up to the 33% that is donated†

† If you volunteer at a charity of your choice you can reduce your total by up to 17% of the project total. The other approx 17% will still be donated to one of the charities above. Feel free to mix and match your volunteer work.
